Abstract
To compare platelet yieid and WBC contamination between two continuous flow systems and to determine filtration effeciency, the author performed plateletpheresis using CS 3000 for 20 donors and CS 3000 plus for 47 donors and filtered 5 cases
using
Sepacell PL-10ATM. Platelet yield was 4.00¡¾0.79¡¿10E11/unit in CS 3000, and 3.99¡¾0.93¡¿10E11/unit in CS 3000 plus. For platelet yield there was no significant difference between two systems. WBC contamination was 77.65¡¾31.66¡¿10E7/unit in CS
3000 and
5.01¡¾5.16¡¿10E7/unit in CS 3000 plus. The WBC contamination was significantly lower in CS 3000 plus than in CS 3000. WBC contamination decreased from 0.6-90.6¡¿10E7/unit to 0.2-0.9¡¿10E7/unit after filtration. On the basis of this result, it can
be
suggested that the use of CS 3000 plus(CS 3000 with TNX-6 system) in plateletpheresis and filtration of platelet concentrates with Sepacell PL-10ATM is an efficient means to delay and decrase the incidence of alloimmunization and refractoriness
to
platelet transfusion.
